How to Keep your Dog from Scratching up your Hardwood Floors

Now you may think that it is near impossible to keep your hardwood floors from getting scratched if you own a dog. So, I'm going to give you a few tips on how to keep your hardwood floors looking great while keeping your dog happy with you.

Trimming Your Dogs Nails

One of the most important things in keeping your dog from scratching the floor is keeping their nails trimmed. If you take your dog in to get groomed, you can have them trim their nails also. It is very likely that they already do this during the grooming process, but it doesn't hurt to double check. If you find that your dog's nails need to be trimmed on a more regular basis, you can even learn to trim them yourself. If you are a little nervous or apprehensive about trimming your dog's nails, perhaps the next option would be a better fit.

Protective Boots or Caps

Another way that works is to have your dog wear boots. They keep the dog from sliding around and from digging into the hardwood. Its just a matter of if you want to take them on and off of your dog. Capping your dogs nails is another way to help keep your wood floors looking great! After you've trimmed their nails you cap them with these small caps. This keeps the tips of the nails from digging in.

Placing Rugs in the Right Area

There are certain places you know your dog likes to run. Whether it is tearing around the corner or running to great people at the front door!
